News from Wales- May edition.

May has been so busy I am not sure where to begin; I will start with the Cafe that I have been talking about for some time. I am delighted to inform that you that the cafe is now open, only once a week, however, it is a start for now. We have had 3 sessions and each time the Cafe was full. The youngest Customer was 3 weeks old and the eldest 91. The playgroup has asked if they can bring their Children, we are looking forward to their visit. We have kept the prices cheap to allow the focus to be on reducing isolation as opposed to raising money. We invited the School Children to enter a competition to name the Cafe. I was delighted to attend the School assembly to present the winning pupil age 7 with a trophy and a selection of stationery. I am sure you will agree that Cafe Sunshine / Caffi Heulwen is a great name. The next competition will be to design a logo.

We teamed up with Keep Wales Tidy to have a Community Spring Clean. 15 volunteers turned up to help; we spent two hours collecting litter then rewarded ourselves with cake. We are having another session at the end of June, just before the best kept Village Competition.

I Joined Helen Jones, at a Taster Session with Can Cook; they are a Social enterprise that delivers Chef prepared meals to older people in Liverpool. They are now developing their business in Flintshire and will provide meals for lunch clubs, however, volunteers will be needed to heat and serve the food, and of course the washing up. We are exploring this option further.

I will look forward to catching up with you next month, Shereen.
