Looking ahead to 2018 in Leeswood

A festive update from our Rural Wisdom Development Worker in Flintshire – Shereen Devine

Last month the steering group met for the second time, it was a small yet productive gathering, which has enabled me to make a plan to move forward. Plans are now underway to convert an unused part of the Community Centre into an age-friendly community space. I am excited about this & believe it will benefit the community. The Community Council have invited the Steering Group to apply for funding to assist with the cost. Plans for the new space include a comfortable community café, knitting group and possibly a college course or two.

Towards the end of November, a few of the Rural Wisdom Wales team enjoyed a trip to Glasgow to meet the Scottish team. We enjoyed meeting the wider team & gaining an insight to Rural Wisdom in Scotland.

Now, winter has properly arrived here in North Wales & many communities including my own became snowed in. Unfortunately, this prevented me from visiting Leeswood for a few days. Prior to the snow, I attended a wonderful Christmas Fayre which was a fantastic intergenerational event with something for everyone; craft stalls, name the teddy bear, trash or treasure and of course, Santa himself. December is a busy time in Leeswood, with carol concerts and Christmas tree competitions; there will be enough events to keep the community going until Christmas.

Enjoy the festive season, wishing you a healthy and happy 2018.
